Delusional / The Story of the Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Delusional
The Story of the Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Widely revered as the “artists’ gallerist,” Jonathan LeVine has nourished a much needed alternative viewpoint within the stilted New York art market. In the pages of Delusional, readers will discover the fascinating backstory that brought this punk kid from Trenton to the hallowed gallery walls of Chelsea.

LeVine began his career in the arts publishing a fanzine in the 1980s and then curating shows at diverse venues in the 90s. By the turn of the millennium, LeVine had opened up Tin Man Alley, his own gallery located in New Hope, and then Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Jonathan LeVine Gallery was officially launched in New York City in 2005. Since then, LeVine has brought his considerable talents to bear, focusing on work influenced by illustration, comic books, graffiti, street art and pop culture imagery.

Levine’s featured artists tend to share a strong figurative and narrative inclination and include Doze Green, Shepard Fairey, Audrey Kawasaki, Gary Baseman, Camille Rose Garcia, Tara McPherson, Josh Agle (aka Shag) and a long list of other esteemed artists*.

Lavish illustrations throughout complete the package.

One Gear: Converting and Maintaining Single Speed & Fixed Gear Bicycles

One Gear
Converting and Maintaining Single Speed & Fixed Gear Bicycles

A simple, appealing aesthetic and ease of maintenance has made fixed gear bicycles (fixies) and single-speeds a favorite of urban cyclists in a growing movement spanning from San Francisco to Melbourne and Tokyo to Berlin.

The appeal of single-gear bikes is undeniable; creating your own bike by recycling a grimy old road bike — stripping unneeded parts, adapting new components, and perhaps even re-painting — is a rewarding experience. Getting greasy while customizing and building one’s own ride is an essential part of the process.

One Gear is a unique, much needed contribution to the culture that explains in simple, easy to understand language the steps required for a beginning or intermediate bike mechanic to learn how to rebuild and convert a geared bicycle into a slick, personalized fixie or single-speed.

One Gear also contains chapters on single-speed variants such as flip-flop hubs, torpedo hubs and modern coaster brakes, as well as pictorial essays featuring frame builders ranging from classic standard bearers such as Cinelli and De Rosa to contemporary practitioners like Icarus Frames.

224 pages, Hardcover, 7” x 9 1/2” (178 x 235 mm)
150 color illustrations, English

Banksy: Myths & Legends | A Collection of the Unbelievable and the Incredible

Banksy: Myths & Legends
A Collection of the Unbelievable and the Incredible
by Marc Leverton

No single living artist has created as many myths, rumors and legends as Banksy. In his home town of Bristol almost everyone seems to have a Banksy story. Many of the tales in this book are from Bristol and some are from further afield. What they share is that they are all told with the wide-eyed wonder which Banksy inspires.

Compiled between 2009 and 2011, some of these stories are quite old and have been told so many times they have become the stuff of legend, while others are more questionable and best described as myths. Some are laugh out loud bollocks and some are simply gossip. You be the judge.

These stories illustrate the incredible audacity, originality and sheer bloody mindedness of Banksy, who obviously will be best remembered for his art and exposing the hypocrisy and idiocy of our modern lives. The myths will be viewed as a distraction to some or part of the appeal for others. One thing is certain, the art and the myths are both larger than life and stick two fingers up at conformity. This book is a celebration of that anarchic, rebellious spirit.

96 pages, Paperback, 6” x 4” (152 x 102 mm)
80 color illustrations, English
6,90 Euro
